Course Numbering Guide
Example course: BUS342
The Prefix, “BUS”, refers to the Business Administration Department.
The first digit indicates the year in which a student typically takes this course:
100-199 Freshman-level courses, lower division
200-299 Sophomore-level courses, lower division
300-399 Junior-level courses, upper division
400-499 Senior-level courses , upper division
500-699 Graduate level courses, upper division
The second digit can be used to group courses within a similar focus.
The third digit may be used to indicate the frequency with which the course is offered, though this is not required. As a suggestion:
0 Every semester
1 Every year, Fall
2 Every year, Spring
3 Odd years, Fall
4 Even years, Spring
5 Even years, Fall
6 Odd years, Spring
7 Offered every 3-4 years
8 Offered on demand
9 Special courses
